159 - ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥasan ibn Abī Maryam narrated to me, from Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn, who said: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Hāniʾ narrated to me, saying: I heard ʿUmar ibn Dharr saying in his supplication: “I ask You, O Allah, for good that reaches us to the reward of the patient ones with You; and I ask You, O Allah, for gratitude that reaches us to the increase of those who are grateful to You; and I ask You, O Allah, for a repentance (Tawba) through which You purify us from the filth of sins, so that we may reside thereby in Your presence in the abode of those who turn repentantly to You. For You are the Master of all blessings and goodness, and You are the One besought in every hardship, distress, and harm. O Allah, grant us patience over what we dislike of Your decree, and contentment therewith obediently; and grant us gratitude for what Your decree has brought of what we love, and submission to Your gracious decree, humbling ourselves before You in submission, hoping for increase and nearness with You, O Most Generous. [112] O Allah, there is nothing more beneficial to us in Your presence than Faith in You, and You have favored us with it, so do not strip it from us nor strip us from it until You cause us to die upon it, being certain of Your reward, fearing Your punishment, patient upon Your trial, hoping for Your mercy, O Most Generous.”
