173 - Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn narrated to us, saying: ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Muḥammad al-Taymī narrated to us, saying: Our companions narrated to us from their men, who said: Moses, peace be upon him, stood up among the Children of Israel to deliver a sermon which he delivered excellently, and he was pleased with it. So the Children of Israel said to him: "Is there anyone among mankind who is more knowledgeable than you?" He said: "No."

So Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, revealed to him: "Indeed, among mankind there is someone who is more knowledgeable than you." He said: "O Lord, who could be more knowledgeable than me when You have given me the Torah, wherein is the knowledge of everything?" Then Allah revealed to him: "More knowledgeable than you is a servant from among My servants whom I charged with a message, then I sent him to a tyrannical, stubborn king who severed his hands and his feet, and mutilated his nose. Then I restored to him what was severed from him, and sent him back to him as a messenger a second time, and he turned to go, saying: 'I am pleased for myself with what You have been pleased with for me,' and he did not say as you said at the very first moment: 'Indeed I fear that they will kill me.'"
