177 - Thābit ibn Aḥmad narrated to us, my father narrated to us, Sulaymān narrated to us, who said: ʿAbd Allāh narrated to me, from Dāwūd ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, who said: Al-Qāsim ibn ʿAbd al-Wāḥid narrated to me that Ziyād was brought Dhū al-Thufināt [the One with Calluses], so he severed his hands and feet and said: “How do you find yourself?” He replied: “You have ruined my worldly life for me, and I will ruin your Hereafter for you.” So Ziyād sent for a woman who was with him to ask her about him. She said: “I do not know, except that I never spread a bed for him by night or by day, nor did I prepare food for him during the day.” Ziyād said: “You are telling me that he fasts the day and stands in prayer at night!” So Ziyād manumitted one hundred slaves.
