185 - Aḥmad ibn Ibrāhīm narrated to us, al-Haytham ibn Jamīl and Aḥmad ibn Yūnus narrated to us, one adding to the other's report, from Abū Shihāb, from Abū Ḥayyān al-Taymī, from his father, who said: I entered upon Suwayd ibn Shuʿbah—and he was among the landowners for whom ʿUmar allotted land plots in al-Kūfah—and he was lying prostrate on his face, covered with a garment. Had his wife not said, "May my family be sacrificed for you, what shall we feed you? What shall we give you to drink?" I would not have thought there was anything beneath the garment.

When he saw me, he said: "O son of my brother, my hip-bones and back have developed sores, so there is no lying position for me other than what you see; by Allah, I would not wish to diminish anything of it by even a fingernail's clipping."
