55 - Isḥāq ibn Ismāʿīl narrated to us, Sufyān ibn ʿUyayna narrated to us, from Manṣūr, from Sālim ibn Abī al-Jaʿd—if God wills—he said: ʿUmar heard a man saying: “O God, spend my wealth and my child in Your cause!” So ʿUmar said: “Will one of you not remain silent? For if he is given, he gives thanks, and if he is tested, he exercises patience.”
