83 - ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥasan narrated to me, from Zakariyyā ibn Abī Khālid, from Yazīd ibn Tamīm, who said: When Ibrāhīm al-Taymī was brought into the prison of al-Ḥajjāj, he saw a group bound together in shackles; they would stand up together and sit down together. He said: “O people receiving God’s trial while in His favor, and O people receiving His favor while in His trial! Indeed, God deemed you worthy of being tested by Him, so show Him that you are worthy of remaining patient for His sake.” They said: “Who are you, may God have mercy on you?” He said: “One who expects the same affliction that has befallen you.” They said: “We would not like to leave our place.”
