93 - Harb ibn Isma'il al-Kirmani informed me, saying: 'Abbas, meaning al-'Anbari, narrated to us, saying: Ibn Dawud said: "Whenever al-Hasan ibn Salih mentioned Uthman, he would remain silent," meaning he would not invoke mercy upon him. Al-Hasan ibn Salih ceased [attending] the Friday prayer for seven years. Abu Bakr al-Marwudhi informed us that Abu 'Abd Allah mentioned al-Hasan ibn Salih and said: "He used to hold the view of [using] the sword, and I am not pleased with his school of thought, and Sufyan is more beloved to us than him. Ibn Hayy had ceased attending the Friday prayer toward the end of his life, and he had indeed caused fitna for the people through his silence and his piety." He also mentioned al-Hasan ibn Salih, meaning on another occasion, and said: "A certain man from the people of Kufa—he named him—had rebelled with Abu al-Saraya and his companions," and he recounted a vile matter. I asked: "How did they tolerate him?" and he remained silent."
