10 - Muhammad ibn Abi Harun informed me that Ishaq narrated to them that Abu 'Abd Allah [81] was asked about the hadith of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him: "Whoever dies without an Imam, he dies a death of ignorance." What is its meaning? Abu 'Abd Allah said: "Do you know what the Imam is? The Imam is the one upon whom the Muslims agree, all of them saying: 'This is an Imam.' This is its meaning."
١٠ - وَأَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي هَارُونَ، أَنَّ إِسْحَاقَ، حَدَّثَهُمْ أَنَّ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ⦗٨١⦘ سُئِلَ عَنْ حَدِيثِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «مَنْ مَاتَ وَلَيْسَ لَهُ إِمَامٌ مَاتَ مِيتَةً جَاهِلِيَّةً» ، مَا مَعْنَاهُ؟ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ: " تَدْرِي مَا الْإِمَامُ؟ الْإِمَامُ الَّذِي يُجْمِعُ الْمُسْلِمُونَ عَلَيْهِ، كُلُّهُمْ يَقُولُ: هَذَا إِمَامٌ، فَهَذَا مَعْنَاهُ "
