117 - Abu Bakr al-Marrudhi informed us, saying: I heard Husayn al-Sa'igh say: When the affair of Babak occurred, Abu 'Abd Allah [Ahmad ibn Hanbal] began urging people to go out [to fight] against him, and he wrote a letter with me to Abu al-Walid, the governor of Basra, urging them to go out [to fight] against Babak.
١١٧ - وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ الْمَرُّوذِيُّ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ حُسَيْنَ الصَّائِغَ، قَالَ: لَمَّا كَانَ مِنْ أَمْرِ بَابَكَ، جَعَلَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يُحَرِّضُ عَلَى الْخُرُوجِ إِلَيْهِ وَكَتَبَ مَعِي كِتَابًا إِلَى أَبِي الْوَلِيدِ وَالِي الْبَصْرَةِ يُحَرِّضُهُمْ عَلَى الْخُرُوجِ إِلَى بَابِكَ
