Harb ibn Isma'il al-Kirmani reported to me, saying: I said to Ahmad, 'I was on a journey, and there was a man in front of me when the enemy fell upon him, so he called out to me and sought my help.' He replied, "I do not know. If it were your own property, there would be nothing in my heart [against you defending it], but as for the property of someone else, I do not know."
