169 - Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Hazim informed us that Ishaq ibn Mansur narrated to them, saying: I asked Abu Abd Allah [Ahmad ibn Hanbal]: 'Should the thief be fought?' He replied: 'If he is approaching, you fight him; but if he turns away, do not fight him.' Ishaq ibn Mansur said: Ishaq ibn Rahawayh said the same as he said. I said: Ibn Umar caught a thief in his house and drew his sword. He said: 'If he is approaching, yes; but if he is turning away, then no.' Ishaq said: 'Just as he said.'
١٦٩ - أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ حَازِمٍ، أَنَّ إِسْحَاقَ بْنَ مَنْصُورٍ حَدَّثَهُمْ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ: يُقَاتَلُ اللِّصُّ؟ قَالَ: «إِذَا كَانَ مُقْبِلًا تُقَاتِلُهُ، وَإِذَا وَلَّى فَلَا تُقَاتِلْ» . قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ: قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ رَاهَوَيْهِ كَمَا قَالَ. قُلْتُ: أَخَذَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ لِصًّا فِي دَارِهِ فَأَصْلَتَ السَّيْفَ، قَالَ: إِذَا كَانَ مُقْبِلًا، وَأَمَّا مُوَلِّيًا فَلَا، قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ: كَمَا قَالَ
