178 - 'Abd al-Malik al-Maymuni informed me, saying: They said to Abu 'Abd Allah: A thief entered upon a man in his house, how should he act? He said: Did Ibn 'Umar not take the sword? Had we not stopped him [he would have done more]. They said: So should he strike him? He said to them: "A man has the right to defend his property and his own self, meaning with anything."
