229 - Muhammad ibn Ismail al-Ahmasi informed us, saying: Waki' informed us, from Ismail ibn Abi Hazim, from Dukayn ibn Sa'id al-Khath'ami, who said: 'We came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, while we were forty or four hundred, asking him for food. The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said to Umar: "Go and give them [food]." Umar said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have nothing except what suffices me and the children for the summer season." Waki' said: "The qayz (summer season) in the speech of the Arabs is three months." He said: "Go and give them." Umar said: "I hear and obey." He said: So Umar stood up, and we stood up with him, and he ascended to a room of his, then Umar took the key out of his waist-wrapper, then he opened the door. Dukayn said: So there was in the room something like a young camel lying down, and he said: "Take what you need." Every man among us took his need, as much as he wished. He said: Then I turned around—and I was among the last of them—and it was as if we had not taken a single date from it.'
