Volume 1 · Page 361

Translation · EN

338 - Muhammad informed us, saying: Waki' narrated to us, from Yunus ibn Abi Ishaq, from Abu al-Safar, that Abu Bakr looked out from a privy or a roof, while Asma' bint 'Umays was supporting him—and she had tattooed hands—and said: "Are you content with whom I have appointed as your successor? For by Allah, I have not been negligent, nor have I been inconsistent, nor have I failed to exert my best judgment, and I have not appointed a relative. I have appointed 'Umar ibn al-Khattab as your successor, so listen to him and obey him." They said: "We have heard and we obey."
