41 - Muhammad informed us, saying: Waki' reported, from Zam'ah ibn Salih, from al-Zuhri, from Abu Idris al-Khawlani, from 'Ubadah ibn al-Samit, who said: We were with the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, sitting in a circle, and he extended his hand and said: "You pledge allegiance to me that you will not associate anything with Allah." Then he recited the verse in Surah al-Nisa' to its end: "Whoever among you fulfills it, his reward is with Allah; and whoever among you commits any of that and it is hidden from him, his affair is with Allah; if He wills, He will punish him, and if He wills, He will forgive him; and whoever among you commits any of that and the legal punishment (hadd) is carried out upon him, it is an expiation for him."
