Ahmad ibn al-Husayn ibn Hassan informed me, saying: I heard Abu Abd Allah [Ahmad ibn Hanbal] when he was asked about obedience to the Sultan, and he gestured with his hand [and said]: "May Allah grant well-being to the Sultan. It is necessary [to obey him]. Glory be to Allah, the Sultan!"

٣ - وَأَخْبَرَنِي أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ حَسَّانَ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، وَسُئِلَ ⦗٧٦⦘ عَنْ طَاعَةِ السُّلْطَانِ، فَقَالَ بِيَدِهِ: «عَافَا اللَّهُ السُّلْطَانَ، تَنْبَغِي، سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ، السُّلْطَانُ»
