Muhammad informed us, saying: Waki' reported to us, from Ibn Abi Khalid, from Shubayl ibn 'Awf al-Ahmasi, from a man from the Banu Asad, who said: "I had a need to present to 'Umar, so I went to him early in the morning to speak to him about it. A man wearing thick Syrian garments preceded me to him and spoke with him. I heard 'Umar, may Allah have mercy on him, saying to him: 'If I obey you, you will surely cause me to enter the Fire; if I obey you, you will surely cause me to enter the Fire.' He said: So I looked at him, and it was Mu'awiyah."
