82 - Muhammad ibn Ali informed me, saying: Muhanna narrated to us, saying: I asked Ahmad about the hadith of al-A'mash, from Salim ibn Abi al-Ja'd, from Thawban: "Obey the Quraysh as long as they are upright for you." He said: "It is not authentic; Salim ibn Abi al-Ja'd did not meet Thawban." He said: And I asked Ahmad about Ali ibn Abis—whom al-Himmani narrates from—from Abu Fazara, from Abu Salih, the mawla of Umm Hani, from Umm Hani, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said [something] like the hadith of Thawban: "Be upright for the sake of Quraysh." He said: "It is not authentic; it is munkar (denounced)."
