505 - And Muhammad ibn 'Ali and al-Hasan ibn 'Abd al-Wahhab informed me that Muhammad ibn Abi Harb narrated to them, saying: I asked Abu 'Abd Allah [Ahmad ibn Hanbal] in his vestibule about testifying for the Ten [who were promised Paradise]? He replied: "We bear witness. Abu Bakr says: 'Do you bear witness that our slain are in Paradise?' and they were a great number. Sa'id ibn Zayd says in one of his hadith: 'I bear witness.' And Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib says: 'If I were to bear witness for any living person, I would bear witness for Ibn 'Umar.' I said: 'Is one who does not bear witness to be shunned?' He said: 'What does he say?' I said: 'He says just as the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "And I do not bear witness [except for those he specified]."' So he remained silent."
٥٠٥ - وَأَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، وَالْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ، أَنَّ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ أَبِي حَرْبٍ حَدَّثَهُمْ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ فِي دِهْلِيزِهِ عَنِ الشَّهَادَةِ لِلْعَشَرَةِ؟ فَقَالَ: " نَحْنُ نَشْهَدُ، أَبُو بَكْرٍ يَقُولُ: «تَشْهَدُونَ أَنَّ قَتْلَانَا فِي الْجَنَّةِ» ، وَكَانُوا خَلْقًا كَثِيرًا، وَسَعِيدُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ فِي بَعْضِ حَدِيثِهِ يَقُولُ: أَشْهَدُ، وَسَعِيدُ بْنُ الْمُسَيِّبِ يَقُولُ: لَوْ شَهِدْتُ لِأَحَدٍ حَيٍّ لَشَهِدْتُ لِابْنِ عُمَرَ، قُلْتُ: فَمَنْ لَمْ يَشْهَدْ يُهْجُرُ؟ قَالَ: يَقُولُ: مَاذَا؟ قُلْتُ: يَقُولُ كَمَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: وَلَا أَشْهَدُ، فَسَكَتَ
