520 - 'Ali ibn Harb al-Ta'i narrated to us: Isma'il ibn Aban narrated to us, saying: A man spoke to Sharik regarding something concerning the matter of 'Ali, and Sharik said: "O ignorant one! Do we not know about 'Ali when he ascended the minbar and we asked him? He said: 'Do you know who is the best of this Ummah after its Prophet?' He replied: 'Abu Bakr, then 'Umar.' O ignorant one, are we to say to him: 'You lied'? Rather, we say to him: 'You spoke the truth.'"
