391 - Muhammad ibn 'Ali al-Simsar informed us, he said: Muhanna narrated to us, he said: I asked Abu 'Abd Allah [Ahmad ibn Hanbal], I said: Who are the "two 'Umars"? He replied: "'Umar ibn al-Khattab and 'Umar ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz." I said: "Indeed, Abu 'Ubayd, according to what they have reported to me from him, said: The 'two 'Umars' are Abu Bakr and 'Umar?" He replied: "We do not recognize the 'two 'Umars' except as 'Umar ibn al-Khattab and 'Umar ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz."
