Translation · EN

I heard Tha'lab the grammarian being asked about the saying: "Hayya hala bi-'Umar?" He replied: "It is said: fa-hayya hal, and hayya ahl, and hayya hala." He said: "[It means:] Begin by mentioning 'Umar, may Allah have mercy on him." And I heard Ibrahim al-Harbi being asked about the saying [of the Prophet]: "...until he brought the people to the resting place (hatan)"? He said: "It means the place where the camels are." He [also] said regarding the saying: "I have never seen a 'abqari among the people who performs like his performance," he said: "'Abqar is a land in the Hijaz," and he also said: "'Abqar is a land in Yemen where carpets are made. [As for] 'yafri fariyahu,' he said: 'I have never seen anyone capable of doing his work.'"
