697 - Ya'qub ibn Sufyan Abu Yusuf al-Farisi informed us, saying: Mahmud ibn Khalid al-Azraq narrated to us, saying: 'Umar ibn 'Abd al-Wahid narrated to us, saying: Sa'id ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz narrated to us, from Rabi'ah, from Yazid: That a military expedition (ba'th) from the people of al-Sham were stationed at Amid, and 'Umayr ibn Sa'd was the governor of Hims, then 'Uthman dismissed him and appointed Mu'awiyah. This reached the people of Hims, and it distressed them. Then 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi 'Amirah al-Muzani said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, saying to Mu'awiyah: "O Allah, make him a guide who is guided, and guide him and guide through him."
