717 - Hilal ibn al-'Ala' ibn Hilal Abu 'Umar al-Raqqi informed us, saying: Abu Yusuf Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Raqqi narrated to me, saying: Abu Salamah al-Khuza'i narrated to me, from Jahshafah ibn al-'Ala', who said: When 'Umar ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz was asked about Siffin and the Camel, he would say: "It is a matter from which Allah has kept my hands free, and I will not involve my tongue in it."
٧١٧ - أَخْبَرَنَا هِلَالُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ بْنِ هِلَالٍ أَبُو عُمَرَ الرَّقِّيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو يُوسُفَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ الرَّقِّيُّ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو سَلَمَةَ الْخُزَاعِيُّ، عَنْ جَحْشَفَةَ بْنِ الْعَلَاءِ، قَالَ: كَانَ عُمَرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ إِذَا سُئِلَ عَنْ ⦗٤٦٢⦘ صِفِّينَ، وَالْجَمَلِ، قَالَ: «أَمْرٌ أَخْرَجَ اللَّهُ يَدَيَّ مِنْهُ، لَا أُدْخِلُ لِسَانِي فِيهِ»
