749 - Al-Duri informed us, he said: Qurad narrated to us, Sulayman ibn al-Mughira narrated to us, from Humayd ibn Hilal, from Jundub, who said: We were with Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas in a company. Sa'd dismounted, and I dismounted, and I took advantage of his dismounting. He said: So I began walking by his side, and I praised Allah and extolled Him, and I said: "Mu'awiya has instigated strife among us that I see will only lead to his killing, and the people are killing the remainder of the Shura (Consultation) members and the remainder of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace). So I adjure you by Allah, should you be put in charge of any of their affairs, not to break their unity, not to divide their collective, and not to lead them toward a matter of destruction." Sa'd praised Allah and extolled Him, then said: "To proceed, by Allah, I will not break their unity, I will not divide their collective, and I will not lead them toward a matter of destruction unless they come to me with a sword, saying: 'O Sa'd, this is a believer, so spare him, and this is a disbeliever, so kill him.'" Jundub said: So I knew that he would not enter into any of what we were engaged in.
