750 - Abu Bakr al-Marwudhi informed us, he said: I heard Abu 'Abd Allah mention 'A'isha, the Mother of the Believers, and he spoke of her asceticism (zuhd), her piety (wara'), and her knowledge; for she had distributed one hundred thousand [dirhams] while she would patch her own garment. She was eighteen years old [when the Prophet passed away], and the senior companions of Muhammad (peace be upon him) would ask her—meaning regarding jurisprudence (fiqh) and knowledge—such as Abu Musa al-Ash'ari and others who would ask her.
