Al-Husayn ibn Salih al-Attar informed us, saying: Harun ibn Ya'qub al-Hashimi narrated to us, saying: I heard my father, Ya'qub ibn al-'Abbas, say: We were with Abu Abd Allah [Ahmad ibn Hanbal] in the year twenty-seven [227 AH], myself and Abu Ja'far ibn Ibrahim. Abu Ja'far said to him: "Do we not invoke mercy upon all of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace: Mu'awiyah, 'Amr ibn al-'As, Abu Musa al-Ash'ari, and al-Mughirah?" He replied: "Yes, all of them. Allah described them in His Book, saying: 'Their mark is on their faces from the trace of prostration' [Al-Fath: 29]."
