410 - 'Abd Allah ibn Ahmad informed us, saying: My father narrated to me, saying: Sufyan said: "When the people of Medina rose up against 'Uthman and killed him, Sa'd said to them: 'Is Mu'awiyah better in your estimation than 'Uthman?' They replied: 'No, rather 'Uthman.' He said: 'Then do not kill him.' They said: 'We entrust him to Allah.' He said: 'That is a lie, by Allah.'"
٤١٠ - أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي قَالَ: قَالَ سُفْيَانُ: " أَهْلُ ⦗٣٢٣⦘ الْمَدِينَةِ لَمَّا وَثَبُوا عَلَى عُثْمَانَ فَقَتَلُوهُ، قَالَ لَهُمْ سَعْدٌ: أَمُعَاوِيَةُ خَيْرٌ عِنْدَكُمْ مِنْ عُثْمَانَ؟ قَالُوا: لَا، بَلْ عُثْمَانُ، قَالَ: فَلَا تَقْتُلُوهُ، قَالُوا: نَكِلُهُ إِلَى اللَّهِ. قَالَ: كِذْبَةٌ وَاللَّهِ "
