423 - 'Abd al-Malik informed me, saying: Ibn Hanbal narrated to us, saying: Abu al-Mughirah narrated to us, saying: Safwan narrated to us, saying: 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Jubayr ibn Nufayr narrated to us, from his father: That the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said to 'Uthman ibn 'Affan: "If Allah covers you one day with a shirt, and the hypocrites want you to take it off, do not take it off." Abu 'Abd Allah [Ahmad ibn Hanbal] said: They indeed wanted him to do that, meaning [the fulfillment of] this hadith.
٤٢٣ - أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ، قَالَ: ثَنَا ابْنُ حَنْبَلٍ، قَالَ: ثَنَا أَبُو الْمُغِيرَةِ، قَالَ: ثَنَا صَفْوَانُ، قَالَ: ثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ نُفَيْرٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ: أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لِعُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَفَّانَ: «إِنَّ غَشَاكَ اللَّهُ يَوْمًا قَمِيصًا، فَأَرَادَكَ الْمُنَافِقُونَ أَنْ تَخْلَعَهُ، فَلَا تَخْلَعْهُ» . قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ: قَدْ أَرَادُوهُ عَلَى ذَلِكَ، يَعْنِي هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ
