434 - 'Abd al-Malik informed me, saying: Ibn Hanbal narrated to us, saying: Isma'il narrated to us, saying: Ibn 'Awn narrated to us, from 'Imran al-Khayyat, from Abu Sulayman Zayd ibn Wahb, who said: I was with Hudhayfah in this mosque. He said: And that was when 'Ali called the people to arms while he was at Dhu Qar. He mentioned a lengthy hadith, and he said: Then Hudhayfah spoke a faint word and said: "Do you see the Day of the Abode (Yawm al-Dar) as a minor affair? It was a trial upon the Muslims in general." A Bedouin said: "And there is no one among us alive today other than him. Which Abode? Which Abode?" Hudhayfah replied: "The Abode of 'Uthman ibn 'Affan." He then said: "Glory be to Allah, Glory be to Allah! The Caliph of Allah, and they killed him unjustly!" He (Hudhayfah) said: "Indeed, it was the first of the trials, and the last of them will be the trial of the Messiah (al-Masih)."
