442 - 'Ali ibn Harb informed us, saying: Hisham ibn 'Ali related to us, from 'Abd al-Malik ibn Abi Sulayman, from Abu Layla al-Kindi, who said: I saw 'Uthman, may Allah have mercy on him, overlooking the people on the Day of the House (Yawm al-Dar). He said: "O my people, let not your opposition to me cause you to suffer the like of what befell the people of Nuh, or the people of Hud, or the people of Salih. O my people, do not kill me. O my people, if you kill me, you will be like this," and he interlocked his fingers."
٤٤٢ - أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، قَالَ: ثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ أَبِي سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ أَبِي لَيْلَى الْكِنْدِيِّ، قَالَ: رَأَيْتُ عُثْمَانَ رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ أَشْرَفَ عَلَى النَّاسِ يَوْمَ الدَّارِ، فَقَالَ: «يَا قَوْمِ، لَا يَجْرِمَنَّكُمُ شِقَاقي أَنْ يُصِيبَكُمْ مِثْلُ مَا أَصَابَ قَوْمَ نُوحٍ، أَوْ قَوْمَ هُودٍ أَوْ قَوْمَ صَالِحٍ، يَا قَوْمِ، لَا تَقْتُلُونِي، يَا قَوْمِ، إِنْ تَقْتُلُونِي تَكُونُوا هَكَذَا، وَشَبَّكَ بَيْنَ أَصَابِعِهِ»
