448 - 'Abd Allah ibn Ahmad informed us, saying: My father narrated to me, saying: Abu Muhammad al-Hilali, Sufyan ibn 'Uyaynah, narrated to us from Ibn Ishaq, who said: Al-Makhzumi said: I said to my grandmother Asma': "Why do I see the senior companions of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, sitting with 'Ali?" She replied: "O my little son, how many decisive qualities ('teeth') does 'Ali possess?" She then mentioned his kinship, his seniority in Islam, his generosity, his magnanimity, his marital bond [to the Prophet], and other things.
٤٤٨ - أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي قَالَ: ثَنَا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ الْهِلَالِيُّ سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، قَالَ: قَالَ الْمَخْزُومِيُّ: قُلْتُ لِجَدَّتِي أَسْمَاءَ: مَا لِي أَرَى عَلِيًّا يُجَالِسُهُ الْأَكَابِرُ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ؟ قَالَتْ: يَا بُنَيَّ، وَكَمْ لِعَلِيٍّ مِنْ ضِرْسٍ قَاطِعٍ، فَذَكَرَتْ لَهُ الْقَرَابَةَ، وَالْقِدَمَ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ، وَالْبَذْلَ لِلْمَاعُونَ وَالسَّمَاحَةَ وَالصِّهْرَ وَأَشْيَاءَ "
