880 - Mansur ibn al-Walid informed me: He said, Ali ibn Sa'id narrated to us that he asked Abu Abdullah about [the hadith] "Every newborn is born upon the fitra (innate nature)." He said: "[It refers] to misery and happiness." He said: "It returns to what he was created upon."
881 - Abd al-Malik ibn Abd al-Hamid informed me: He said, "The first fitra which Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, created them upon." I said to him: So what is the first fitra? Is it the religion? He said: "Yes."
٨٨٠ - أَخْبَرَنِي مَنْصُورُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ: قَالَ: ثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ: «كُلِّ مَوْلُودٍ يُولَدُ عَلَى الْفِطْرَةِ» قَالَ: " عَلَى الشَّقَاءِ، وَالسَّعَادَةِ، قَالَ: يَرْجِعُ عَلَى مَا خُلِقَ ".
٨٨١ - أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ، قَالَ: «الْفِطْرَةُ الْأُولَى الَّتِي فَطَرَ اللَّهُ ⦗٥٣٥⦘ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ عَلَيْهَا» ، قُلْتُ لَهُ أَنَا: فَمَا الْفِطْرَةُ الْأُولَى، هِيَ الدِّينُ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ "
