889 - Sulayman ibn al-Ash'ath Abu Dawud al-Sijistani informed us, saying: Muhammad ibn Yazid al-Asfati, Abu 'Abd Allah al-Asfati, narrated to us, saying: I saw the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, in a dream sitting with 'Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah have mercy on him. I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, 'Abd Allah ibn Mas'ud narrated the hadith of the Truthful, the Believed [al-Sadiq al-Masduq], referring to the hadith about the Decree (al-Qadar).' He replied: 'By Allah, other than Whom there is no god, I am the one who narrated it,' repeating this three times. 'May Allah forgive al-A'mash for narrating it, may Allah forgive whoever narrated it before al-A'mash, and may Allah forgive whoever narrated it after al-A'mash.' Abu 'Abd Allah [al-Asfati] said: I narrated it to Ibn Dawud al-Khuraybi, and he wept, meaning the hadith of al-A'mash, from Zayd ibn Wahb, from 'Abd Allah who said: 'The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, narrated to us, and he is the Truthful, the Believed.' Abu Dawud [al-Sijistani] said: This al-Asfati was struck by the Zanj and died. I saw him in a dream after his death and said to him: 'Have you died?' He replied: 'I am alive.'
