892 - Al-Hasan ibn 'Arafah informed us, saying: Abu Hudhayfah al-Nahdi, Musa ibn Mas'ud, narrated to me, saying: Al-Haytham ibn Jahannam narrated to us, from 'Asim ibn Bahdalah, from Abu Wa'il, from Ibn Mas'ud, that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "When the seminal drop settles in the womb, it reaches every hair and skin. Then it is a drop for forty nights, then it is a clot for forty nights, then it is a lump of flesh for forty nights, then it is bones for forty nights. Then Allah clothes the bone with flesh, and the angel says: 'O Lord, is he wretched or blessed? O Lord, is he male or female?' So Allah decrees, and the angel writes. Then he says: 'O Lord, is he wretched or blessed?' So Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, decrees, and the angel writes. Then he says: 'O Lord, what is his appointed term and his provision?' So Allah decrees, and the angel writes. Yet you hang amulets upon your children."
٨٩٢ - أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَرَفَةَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو حُذَيْفَةَ النَّهْدِيُّ مُوسَى بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ: ثَنَا الْهَيْثَمُ بْنُ جَهَنَّمَ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ ابْنِ بَهْدَلَةَ، عَنْ ⦗٥٤٠⦘ أَبِي وَائِلٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: " إِنَّ النُّطْفَةَ إِذَا اسْتَقَرَّتْ فِي الرَّحِمِ نَالَتْ كُلَّ شَعْرٍ وَبِشَرٍ، ثُمَّ تَكُونُ نُطْفَةً أَرْبَعِينَ لَيْلَةً، ثُمَّ تَكُونُ عَلَقَةً أَرْبَعِينَ لَيْلَةً، ثُمَّ تَكُونُ مُضْغَةً أَرْبَعِينَ لَيْلَةً، ثُمَّ تَكُونُ عِظَامًا أَرْبَعِينَ لَيْلَةً، ثُمَّ يِكْسُو اللَّهُ الْعَظْمَ لَحْمًا، فَيَقُولُ الْمَلَكُ: أَيْ رَبِّ شَقِيُّ أَمْ سَعِيدٌ؟ أَيْ رَبِّ ذَكَرٌ أَمْ أُنْثَى؟ فَيَقْضِي اللَّهُ، وَيَكْتُبُ الْمَلَكُ، ثُمَّ يَقُولُ: أَيْ رَبِّ شَقِيُّ أَمْ سَعِيدٌ؟ فَيَقْضِي اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَيَكْتُبُ الْمَلَكُ، ثُمَّ يَقُولُ: أَيْ رَبِّ مَا أَجَلُهُ وَرِزْقُهُ؟ فَيَقْضِي اللَّهُ، وَيَكْتُبُ الْمَلَكُ، وَأَنْتُمْ تُعَلِّقُونَ عَلَى أَوْلَادِكُمُ التَّمَائِمَ "
