898 - He said: And Abu Abd Allah narrated to me, saying: Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Umar ibn Muhammad, who said: I was with Salim when a man asked him: "Is adultery by divine decree?" He said: "Yes." A man then mentioned in the presence of Abu Abd Allah the rest of the hadith: "He decrees it upon him, then punishes him." He (Abu Abd Allah) took a handful of pebbles and struck his face with them.
899 - And Ali ibn Muhammad informed me, saying: Al-Hasan ibn Thawab narrated to us that he asked Abu Abd Allah: "Is adultery by divine decree?" Then Ahmad narrated to me, saying: Ismail narrated to us, and he mentioned something exactly the same.
٨٩٨ - قَالَ: وَحَدَّثَنِي أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ: ثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالَ: كُنْتُ عِنْدَ سَالِمٍ، فَسَأَلَهُ رَجُلٌ: الزِّنَا ⦗٥٤٣⦘ بِقَدَرٍ؟ قَالَ: «نَعَمْ» . فَذَكَرَ رَجُلٌ عِنْدَ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ تَمَامَ الْحَدِيثِ يُقَدِّرُهُ عَلَيْهِ، وَيُعَذِّبُهُ، فَأَخَذَ كَفًّا مِنْ حَصًى فَضَرَبَ بِهِ وَجْهَهُ.
٨٩٩ - وَأَخْبَرَنِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالَ: ثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ ثَوَابٍ، أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الزِّنَا بِقَدَرٍ؟ فَحَدَّثَنِي أَحْمَدُ، قَالَ: ثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ، فَذَكَرَ مِثْلَهُ سَوَاءً
