943 - Abu Bakr al-Marrudhi informed me, saying: Muhammad ibn Sufyan narrated to us, saying: Ibrahim ibn 'Abd al-Samad narrated to us, saying: I said to Wahb ibn Jarir: "'Abbad ibn Suhayb says: 'I do not say that Allah willed for it to be said that He is the third of three.'" He said: Then Wahb replied: "O enemy of Allah, yes, Allah willed for it to be said that He is the third of three. O enemy of Allah, Allah willed that he should say: 'The third of three.'" And Wahb gestured with the three fingers of his right hand. Ibrahim said: Then I met Ibn Dawud and informed him of Wahb's statement. Ibn Dawud said: "Wahb spoke the truth." He did not ask him [further], but he said: "If Allah—Mighty and Majestic is He—had willed, He would have withered their tongues. He is the One who created Abu Bakr al-Siddiq as Abu Bakr, and Abu Jahl as Abu Jahl."
