955 - Muhammad b. Abi Harun and Muhammad b. Ja'far informed me that Abu al-Harith narrated to them, saying: I asked Abu 'Abd Allah Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Hanbal, saying: "If a man says: 'La ilaha illa Allah' (there is no god but Allah), is he a believer?" He said: "That is how the beginning of faith was, then the obligatory duties were revealed: the prayer, the zakat, the fasting of Ramadan, and the pilgrimage to the House."
