966 - Sulayman ibn al-Ash'ath Abu Dawud al-Sijistani informed us, saying: I heard Abu 'Abd Allah [Ahmad ibn Hanbal] when a man said to him: 'Is there any [sin/consequence] upon me in this, if I say: I am a believer?' Abu 'Abd Allah said: 'Do not say: I am a true believer, nor absolutely, nor [I am a believer] in the sight of Allah.'
