793 - 'Abd al-Malik ibn 'Abd al-Hamid informed me that he heard Abu 'Abdullah say regarding the Rafidi, saying: "I do not attend his funeral; let whoever wishes to attend it do so. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) refrained [from attending the funeral] for less than this; debt, misappropriation of spoils (ghulul), and [the case of] the one killed [while having misappropriated spoils]; he did not pray over them, nor did he command them to do so." Abu 'Abdullah mentioned a mursal hadith that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) fought the people of Khaybar in their various regions, and a man remained [behind] and was killed, so he did not pray over him. Is it Yahya ibn Abi Kathir who narrates it? 'Abd al-Malik said: Perhaps I wrote them both. A man said to Abu 'Abdullah: "They say: What is your opinion if he dies in a village where there is no one but Christians? Who will attend his funeral?" Abu 'Abdullah said, answering him: "I do not attend his funeral; let whoever wishes to attend it do so."
