1007 - Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn 'Ali informed us that Ya'qub ibn Bukhtan narrated to them, saying: I asked Abu 'Abd Allah [Ahmad ibn Hanbal] about recognition (ma'rifa) and speech (qawl): Do they increase and decrease? He replied: "No. We have already addressed speech and recognition, and what remains is deed ('amal)."
