1008 - Muhammad ibn 'Ali informed us, saying: Salih narrated to us that his father [Ahmad ibn Hanbal] said: "Some parts of faith are superior to others; it increases and decreases. Its increase is in deeds, and its decrease is in the abandonment of deeds; for speech is a means of drawing near."
١٠٠٨ - أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ: ثَنَا صَالِحٌ، أَنَّ أَبَاهُ قَالَ: «الْإِيمَانُ بَعْضُهُ أَفْضَلُ مِنْ بَعْضٍ، يَزِيدُ وَيَنْقُصُ، وَزِيَادَتُهُ فِي الْعَمَلِ، وَنُقْصَانُهُ فِي تَرْكِ الْعَمَلِ؛ لِأَنَّ الْقَوْلَ هُوَ مَقْرَبَةٌ»
