1038 - 'Abd al-Malik ibn 'Abd al-Hamid informed me, saying: Ibn al-Shafi'i informed me, from his father, who said: I was with him one night in the Sacred Mosque, and al-Humaydi was with us. We mentioned something regarding faith. He said: My father [al-Shafi'i] said: "There is nothing I argue against them with more effectively than this verse: {And they were not commanded except to worship Allah, [being] sincere to Him in religion, inclining to truth...} [Al-Bayyinah: 5] to the end of the verse." Then he said: I never heard my father mention anything of this before that night.
