1047 - Muhammad ibn Abi Harun informed me that Hubaysh ibn Sindi narrated to them that Abu 'Abd Allah was asked: "How do we interpret the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): 'The adulterer does not commit adultery while he is a believer'?" He replied: "It is just as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said." It was said to him: "Indeed, some people say: 'It implies [as an imperative prohibition] that the adulterer should not commit adultery.'" He remarked: "These people are liars; have they heard this and yet it remains obscure to the people?"
