1049 - Muhammad ibn al-Hasan ibn Harun informed me, saying: I asked Abu 'Abd Allah about the exception (al-istithna') in faith, and he replied: "Yes, the exception is not meant to imply doubt, but rather as a precaution and in consideration of one's deeds. Ibn Mas'ud and others have made this exception, and it is the madhhab (school of thought) of the Shura (the Consultative Council). Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, says: 'You will surely enter the Sacred Mosque, if Allah wills, in security' [Al-Fath: 27]. And the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to his companions: 'Indeed, I hope to be the most God-fearing among you,' and he said concerning Al-Baqi': 'We shall be resurrected upon it, if Allah wills.'"
