1064 - 'Abd al-Malik al-Maymuni informed me, saying: Ibn Hanbal narrated to us, saying: Sulayman ibn Dawud narrated to us, saying: Shu'ba narrated to us, from Zubayd, who said: When the Murji'a began to speak [their doctrine], I went to Abu Wa'il and asked him, so he narrated to me from 'Abd Allah [Ibn Mas'ud], from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), who said: "Reviling a Muslim is an act of transgression (fisq or fusuq), and fighting him is an act of disbelief (kufr)." He said: And al-A'mash and Mansur narrated it to me, as they both heard Abu Wa'il, from 'Abd Allah, from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). He [Shu'ba] said: So I said to Hammad [ibn Abi Sulayman]: "Am I to accuse Zubayd? Am I to accuse Mansur? Am I to accuse al-A'mash?" He replied: "No, but accuse Abu Wa'il."
