813 - I heard Ali ibn Isma'il al-Bandaniji say: We collected hadiths regarding what transpired between the companions of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace. I said to Ali ibn Isma'il: [Do you mean] the criticisms (mathalib)? He replied: Yes. He said: We brought them to Suwayd ibn Sa'id. He said: So he refused to read them to us and said: Abu Abd Allah Ahmad ibn Hanbal wrote to me: O Abu Muhammad, do not narrate these hadiths. Ali said: And whenever he would pass by any of them, he would not narrate it.
٨١٣ - سَمِعْتُ عَلِيَّ بْنَ إِسْمَاعِيلَ الْبَنْدَنِجِيَّ، قَالَ: جَمَعْنَا أَحَادِيثَ فِيمَا كَانَ بَيْنَ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقُلْتُ لِعَلِيِّ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ: الْمَثَالِبُ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، قَالَ: وَأَتَيْنَا بِهَا سُوَيْدَ بْنَ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ: فَأَبَى أَنْ يَقْرَأَهَا عَلَيْنَا، فَقَالَ: كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَنْبَلٍ: يَا أَبَا مُحَمَّدٍ، لَا ⦗٥٠٨⦘ تُحَدِّثُ بِهَذِهِ الْأَحَادِيثَ، قَالَ عَلِيٌّ: فَكَانَ إِذَا مَرَّ مِنْهَا بِشَيْءٍ لَمْ أُحَدِّثْ بِهِ
