819 - Muhammad ibn 'Ali informed me, saying: Muhanna told us, saying: I asked Ahmad, saying: Khalid ibn Khidash narrated to me, saying: Sallam said: And Muhammad ibn 'Ali informed me, saying: Yahya told us, saying: I heard Khalid ibn Khidash saying: Sallam ibn Abi Muti' came to Abu 'Awanah and said: 'Bring these innovations that you have brought to us from Kufa!' He said: So Abu 'Awanah brought out his books to him, and he cast them into the oven. I asked Khalid: 'What was in them?' He said: 'The hadith of al-A'mash, from Salim ibn Abi al-Ja'd, from Thawban, who said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "Show uprightness toward Quraysh," and things similar to it.' I said to Khalid: 'And what else?' He said: 'The hadith of 'Ali: "I am the divider of the Fire."' I said to Khalid: 'Did Abu 'Awanah narrate that to you from al-A'mash?' He said: 'Yes.'
820 - 'Abd Allah ibn Ahmad informed us, saying: I heard my father saying: 'Sallam ibn Abi Muti' is one of the trustworthy ones among the companions of Ayyub, and he was a righteous man. 'Abd Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us from him.' Then my father said: 'Abu 'Awanah had compiled a book containing the faults of the companions of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and it contained calamities. So Sallam ibn Abi Muti' came to him and said: "O Abu 'Awanah, give me that book." He gave it to him, and Sallam took it and burned it.'
٨١٩ - وَأَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ: ثَنَا مُهَنَّى، قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ أَحْمَدَ، قُلْتُ: حَدَّثَنِي خَالِدُ بْنُ خِدَاشٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ سَلَّامٌ: وَأَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ: ثَنَا يَحْيَى، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ خَالِدَ بْنَ خِدَاشٍ، قَالَ: جَاءَ سَلَّامُ بْنُ أَبِي مُطِيعٍ إِلَى أَبِي عَوَانَةَ، فَقَالَ: هَاتِ هَذِهِ الْبِدَعَ الَّتِي قَدْ جِئْتَنَا بِهَا مِنَ الْكُوفَةِ، قَالَ: فَأَخْرَجَ إِلَيْهِ أَبُو عَوَانَةَ كُتَبَهُ، فَأَلْقَاهَا فِي التَّنَّورِ، فَسَأَلْتُ خَالِدًا مَا كَانَ فِيهَا؟ قَالَ: حَدِيثُ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ، عَنْ ثَوْبَانَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «اسْتَقِيمُوا لِقُرَيْشٍ» ، وَأَشْبَاهِهِ، قُلْتُ لِخَالِدٍ: وَأَيْشِ؟ قَالَ: حَدِيثُ عَلِيٍّ: «أَنَا قَسِيمُ النَّارِ» ، قُلْتُ لِخَالِدٍ: حَدَّثَكُمْ بِهِ أَبُو عَوَانَةَ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ.
٨٢٠ - وَأَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبِي يَقُولُ: سَلَّامُ بْنُ أَبِي مُطِيعٍ مِنَ الثِّقَاتِ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ أَيُّوبَ، وَكَانَ رَجُلًا صَالِحًا، حَدَّثَنَا عَنْهُ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، ثُمَّ قَالَ أَبِي: كَانَ أَبُو عَوَانَةَ وَضَعَ كِتَابًا فِيهِ مَعَايِبُ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَفِيهِ بَلَايَا، فَجَاءَ إِلَيْهِ سَلَّامُ بْنُ أَبِي مُطِيعٍ، فَقَالَ: يَا أَبَا عَوَانَةَ، أَعْطِنِي ذَلِكَ الْكِتَابَ، فَأَعْطَاهُ، فَأَخَذَهُ سَلَّامٌ فَأَحْرَقَهُ
