823 - Harb ibn Isma'il al-Kirmani informed me, saying: I asked Ishaq, meaning Ibn Rahwayh, saying: 'A man stole a book from someone that contained the opinion of Jahm or the opinion of the Qadariyyah?' He said: 'He should throw it away.' I asked: 'He was caught before he could burn it or throw it away, does he deserve the prescribed punishment of amputation?' He replied: 'There is no amputation for him.' I asked Ishaq: 'A man has a book containing the opinion of Irja', the Qadariyyah, or some other innovation, so I borrowed it from him, and when it was in my possession, I burned it or tore it up?' He said: 'There is nothing upon you.'
