835 - Ahmad ibn 'Ali al-Abbar said: I asked Sufyan ibn Waki', and I said: "Should we write down these poor-quality hadiths?" He replied: "No person has ever sought them and found success." He (al-Abbar) said: "I asked Abu Hammam, and he said: 'Do not write them down.' And I asked Mujahid ibn Musa, and he said: 'Why would you write them down?' I replied: 'So that we may recognize them.' He said: 'You recognize evil.'"
٨٣٥ - وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْأَبَّارُ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ سُفْيَانَ ⦗٥١٦⦘ بْنَ وَكِيعٍ، فَقُلْتُ: هَذِهِ الْأَحَادِيثُ الرَّدِيئَةُ نَكْتُبُهَا؟ فَقَالَ: مَا طَلَبَهَا إِنْسَانٌ فَأَفْلَحَ، قَالَ: وَسَأَلْتُ أَبَا هَمَّامٍ؟ فَقَالَ: لَا تَكْتُبْهَا، وَسَأَلْتُ مُجَاهِدَ بْنَ مُوسَى؟ فَقَالَ: لِأَيْشِ تَكْتُبُهَا؟ قُلْتُ: نَعْرِفُهَا، قَالَ: تَعْرِفُ الشَّرَّ
